My interest in health began over 15 years ago when I trained as a Registered Comprehensive Nurse in the Manawatu. Since then I have worked in several different areas of the health world including oncology nursing, mental health nursing, healthcare recruitment and case management. My past experience has been invaluable in the work I am doing now as a Psychotherapist and it has provided me with a broad understanding of how people relate to themselves and how they relate to others.

I have a Masters of Health Science in Adult Psychotherapy from Auckland University of Technology, which involves not only academic success but also an intense and rigorous understanding of ourselves and how we are in relation to others. I think that having been through a similar process to what my clients are going through has allowed me to be more empathic and understanding in the work we do together.

I have spent the past few years working with people who often begin therapy feeling depressed, lonely, or confused. Sometimes people will contact me when they cannot seem to get over a relationship break-up, or they feel they are not respected by or not accepted by their family groups, social groups or work groups. Whatever the reason may be, what usually prompts the client to call is the desire for change and the need to tell someone what is going on for them in the hope that they will feel understood and assisted in some way.

I also have experience working with individuals living with HIV / AIDS and individuals who are struggling with their sexual identity. I am compassionate, sensitive and very understanding of feelings and experiences that may initially feel shameful, frightening or unpleasant. Therapy is a unique experience - and it is a courageous and positive step to make if you want to move on with your life and really feel alive.
