Choosing the right counsellor or psychotherapist goes beyond simply finding somebody with the relevant qualifications. At Auckland City Therapy we believe that finding a therapist that you feel comfortable with is important and numerous studies have also shown that a good fit between client and therapist is a significant factor in a successful therapy outcome. Auckland City Therapy Ltd provides counselling and psychotherapy services to individuals and couples. It was established in 2009 by Jon Hay and Amanda Cox.
Prior to establishing the practice Jon and Amanda had both worked in a variety of community agencies in the not-for-profit sector. Their experience in the community agencies exposed them a wide range of specialised health problems such as addictions, sexual health, and terminal illness, as well as more mainstream issues such as depression, anxiety and relationship problems.
Like many psychotherapists, alongside their jobs in the community services they also had their own small private practices: Amanda was based in Mt Eden and Jon in the central city. However, the time they had available to focus on their practices was limited by their commitments to their employers. They were both keen to setup a practice where could offer general therapy to individuals and couples that could be specifically tailored to suit each individual person’s needs. And so in 2009 they joined forces and setup Auckland City Therapy.
Initially they continued to work out of two separate offices but the logistics of this was impractical and in the spring of 2009 they moved to an office in Parnell, in an old converted wool warehouse near the port. The building was great but the parking was atrocious and so in 2011 Auckland City Therapy moved to a new office in Epsom. The Epsom office is based in the historic Morton House at 2 Mountain Road, above Morton Estate wines. It is within easy walking distance of Newmarket and opposite the new Grafton Train Station and Auckland Domain.
